Collection: Joanne Burke

AN ACCIDENTAL JEWELLER – AFTER YEARS DESIGNING CLOTHES AND ACCESSORIES IN LONDON AND THE US – JOANNE BURKE CURRENTLY PRODUCES HER NAMESAKE JEWELRY LINE OUT OF ITALY. SHE CRAFTS EACH DESIGN IN WAX, THEN CASTS THEM IN A MOULD MADE BY A FAMILY-OWNED JEWELLER, BEFORE THE PIECES RETURN TO HER STUDIO TO BE FINISHED AND POLISHED BY HAND. HER PIECES APPEAR ORGANIC AND NATURAL, AS IF GROWN RATHER THAN MADE BY A HUMAN HAND. THE EARTHY AND ROBUST CONSTRUCTION OF BURKE’S PIECES – A SIGNATURE LOOK CREATED BY HER USE OF THE LOST-WAX CASTING PROCESS, THOUGHT TO BE ALMOST 6,000 YEARS OLD – DOES CALL TO MIND SOMETHING THAT COULD BELIEVABLY HAVE BEEN UNEARTHED BY A KEEN METAL-DETECTING TREASURE HUNTER, AND YET THEY DON’T FEEL IN ANY WAY ROOTED IN THE PAST.
