Julia Heuer is the eccentric master of a Japanese tie-dying technique called Arashi Shibori. The combination of unique patterns and handmade pleating creates a look that cannot be replicated. She gives this ancient technique a contemporary and bold makeover that delights with sensuous colours and a brash mix of patterns.

Through her eponymous brand, Swedish designer Julia Heuer creates pieces that are instantly recognizable by their handmade plissé and vibrant prints. Heuer’s careful process sees a combination of illustrated stories being directly applied to raw materials and the Japanese tie-dyeing pleating technique of Arashi Shibori. The garments’ delicate pleating and loose but elegant cut create a playful sense of movement and unique silhouette.
