The Shore Shirt is a short sleeve top based on 50s holiday shirts. The pattern is the result of careful dyeing, clamping, folding, and decades of expertise. This garment is made in organic cotton, naturally dyed with fermented indigo and madder root, and finished with a little hand embroidered peace sign and corozo nut buttons.
Story mfg. was born out of a desire for a more authentic, fulfilling and kind approach to fashion -- one that doesn't involve a trade-off between aesthetics and consciousness. We are a husband and wife team and work with a large group of natural dyers, weavers, embroiderers and tailors at an atelier in the South Indian forest. Our products are designed to benefit the earth, our customers and the people we work with.
This collection, named “Fil Mish-Mish” translates literally from Arabic to say, When apricots bloom’ and it’s what linguists call an ‘idiom of improbability’. The closest English counterpart is ‘When pigs fly’ or ‘I wouldn’t count on it’. Although pigs won’t ever fly, that saying never feels quite like a hard ‘never’ and Fil Mish-Mish has that same sort of strength of statement.
