Erzilie Dantor is a guardian of women, children, and neglected members of society. She is independent and beholden to no one. She is honoured as the spirit who initiated the Haitian Revolution, and is considered one of the highest spirits in Hatian Vodou. She is pictured here in all her glory holding her daughter.
Haitian artist Georges Valris expands upon many hundreds of years of traditional practices to formulate his beautifully adorned, highly distinctive mixed media artworks. Known for his hand beaded, highly embellished works Valris is inspired by the rich and expansive history of Haiti as well as by his upbringing in the Vodou religion.
