The Juliette Corset was brocaded by master embroiderer (zarduz) Mirshod Farmanov in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. The art of arranging gold metal threads in parallel rows on a ground fabric, and then couching them with silk thread has a long history in Bukhara. Examples have been found dating back to the 7th century when the first gold mines were excavated. Once reserved for the clothes of the nobility, today the technique is used only for special occasions such as weddings. A brocaded wedding robe can take up to 3 years to make.
The name “100% silk” stands for our dedication to exalted textiles. Each collection is an investigation into a special cloth fashioned from traditional techniques such as hand dyeing, knitting or weaving. Between Ghana, Uzbekistan and Toronto, these textiles are reimagined into garments inspired by the delight of earthly wares.
