According to records found in India mythology, handwoven chanderi textiles were first introduced by Lord Krishna's evil cousin Shishupal during the vedic period. Due to the textile's sheer and airy texture, it is sometimes referred to as "woven air". Throughout the Mughal era in India, chanderi was increasingly popular among royalty.
