This collection of zoomorphic whistles are based on designs spanning ten centuries, made by Dilnoza Narzullaeva. A Tajik tradition dating back to Zoroastrian times, the whistle or “Ajuba” is known to call the spring rain. Blurring the boundary between toy, sculpture and ceremonial object, each little monster has its own make up and expression based on the local tradition of the artist who sculpts it. Wide-faced dragons flashing their tongue riding the back of another unknown animals that don’t belong to this sublunary world. Clays are unique to the soil of each region, and the markings are painted using a horse hair brush and pigments diluted with egg white.

Whistle fully functional.
Each monster measures approximately 8" x 3.5"
